Divided Parish Council declines to claw back Parish President’s personnel authority
Thursday’s Ascension Parish Council meeting in Gonzales included an item intended to undo what the Council did on January 18, a unanimous vote ceding authority over certain personnel matters to the Parish President. Four members, all newly-elected in October 2023 to replace four President Clint Cointment haters, reversed course in a failed bid to claw back some of that power.

Woman arrested in connection to Pierre Part check forgery scheme
NAPOLEONVILLE — A Morgan City woman was arrested Thursday for an alleged check cashing scheme at a Pierre Part store that dated back months. Kristy Rulf, 46, turned herself in and was booked by the Assumption Parish Sheriff's Office on identity theft, bank fraud, access device fraud, forgery and monetary instrument abuse charges. Deputies have been investigating the forgery ring since Feb. 9.
