Newark City Schools superintendent to step down at start of 2027
Newark City Schools Superintendent David Lewis will step down at the start of 2027 to pursue a new professional opportunity, the district announced. In September, Lewis told district staff that he planned to retire at the end of the 2026-2027 school year, but moved that up to Jan. 1 after accepting an offer in another field, a news release states. The district hired Lewis in June 2020 after he spent seven years as superintendent of Miami Trace Local Schools in Fayette County. “This was not an easy decision, because Newark has meant so much to me,” Lewis said in the release. “I am grateful to our staff, families and Board of Education for seven wonderful years. Heath football rallies past Fairfield Union in Division IV
LANCASTER - Time was running out on the Heath football team’s senior class on Oct. 30. The Bulldogs were knocked down, but they certainly were not out. Heath erupted in the second half, rallying from a 15-0 deficit to escape with a 22-21 victory at Fairfield Union in a Division IV, Region 15 first-round game. The Bulldogs avenged a 22-3 loss in the first round a year ago. "It's awesome," said senior Camden Stephens’ whose 3-yard touchdown halfback pass to classmate Joe Ward got the Bulldogs on the scoreboard in the third quarter. "We knew we didn't get the outcome we wanted last year, and we were just out for revenge." No. 10 Heath (8-3) visits No. 2 New Lexington (9-1) at 7 p.m. Nov. 6. "We definitely played more together as a team, and we changed a few things on defense (in the second half)," Stephens said. "That touchdown pass I threw, we practice that all of the time. It all came together." Following a 41-yard field goal by senior Camden Montgomery to cut the deficit to 15-10, classmate Tristyn Jones scored on a 21-yard TD run, giving the Bulldogs their first lead at 16-15 with 10:59 left.
