NORTH EAST — A teen was killed and four other people were injured, including two children, in a chain-reaction crash involving three vehicles on Interstate 95 near North East over the weekend, according to the Maryland State Police at the JFK Barrack near Perryville.

Investigators identified the person who was killed as Gage Myers, 18, of New Jersey. Paramedics pronounced Myers dead at the crash scene, police reported.

Myers was driving a 2014 Chevrolet Sonic in the northbound lane of Interstate 95 near the North East/Rising Sun interchange at approximately 6:45 p.m. on Saturday, when his car crashed into the back of 2016 Toyota Highlander that, along with other vehicles in the left two lanes of that highway, was stopped because of an earlier collision, police said. On impact, the Highlander crashed into the rear of a 2022 Toyota Rav 4, police added.

A Delaware State Police helicopter crew flew a 19-year-old female who had been a passenger in Myers' vehicle to Christiana Hospital in Delaware, where she was treated for unspecified injuries, police reported.

Meanwhile, an MSP helicopter crew flew the woman who had been driving the Highlander and a boy who had been one of her passengers to University of Maryland's Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore for treatment, police said. An ambulance crew transported a girl who had been a passenger in the Highlander to Nemours Children’s Hospital in Delaware for treatment, police added.

As of Tuesday, update information regarding the medical conditions of those injured in the crash was unavailable.

The fatal, three-vehicle collision forced emergency workers to close a portion of northbound I-95 for nearly four hours, allowing for the initial treatment and transport of the injured people, the on-scene crash investigation and the removal of the vehicles that had been involved in the chain-reaction collision.
