This BYU basketball signee has flipped his commitment to Utah State
Isaac Davis is no longer headed to BYU. The three-star recruit and one of the top talents from Idaho in the 2024 recruiting class announced Thursday on social media that he is committed to Utah State. Davis signed with the Cougars back in November during the early signing period as...
Prep track & field: West Side boys capture district title
Clutch performance after clutch performance was just what the doctor ordered for the West Side boys track & field team at the 2A Fifth District Championships. Several Pirates broke seed and scored big-time team points, and the end result was the program’s first district title since 2021. It was also a good two days for the Lady Pirates, who finished third in a really tough five-team field. The meet came to a conclusion Thursday at Bear Lake High School.
Softball Recap: Bear River takes down Tooele in a playoff battle
Bear River extended their postseason success on Friday against Tooele. They were the clear victor by a 7-1 margin over the Tooele Buffaloes. Considering Bear River has won seven matchups by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new. Katelyn Wilson tossed a big game, striking out...
One Man Set a World Record For Vertical Skied, But Another Skier Had Logged More Feet
Last week, we covered the story of Ogden, Utah’s Tom Hart, a dedicated skier at Snowbasin Resort who was working to set the world record for most vertical feet skied in a season. He did that (unofficially), skiing over seven-million vertical feet by Snowbasin’s closing day on April 28. By all accounts, it was an amazing effort that took hours of meticulous paperwork and certifications with the people at Guinness that included “news accounts, maps, data from apps that track vertical feet, and witness statements.” (It isn’t clear if Guinness had verified the record yet.)
After 'chaotic' trip to portal, former Utah State starter McCae Hillstead found home at BYU
PROVO — BYU wasn't looking for another quarterback after wrapping up spring practices with no fewer than five capable signal callers on its roster and a QB1 competition between incumbent Jake Retzlaff and Baylor/USF transfer Gerry Bohanon. But it's hard to put a price on experience — and that's...
High school boys soccer: Manti, Ogden each shut out opponents to advance to 3A championship game
Here’s a recap of the 3A boys soccer state tournament semifinals on Thursday at Zions Bank Stadium, with Manti and Ogden advancing to the final. It’s been a historic season for the Manti Templars, who stand with Wasatch as the only teams in the state without a loss this season. Manti has done so while only giving up four total goals while scoring 64 of their own. The Templars earned a chance to cap off their season with a 3A championship as they won convincingly over the Juab Wasps 3-0 in the state semifinals on Thursday. “This group has been together for seven years and I actually started coaching them on a club team,” said Manti head coach Jake Dettinger. “They just have a lot of chemistry together and they have a lot of heart.
Van Sickle’s Complete Game Propels Utah Baseball To Huge Win Over Arizona
SALT LAKE CITY— Call Bryson Van Sickle a big-game hunter after the redshirt senior threw his second complete game of the year in a 6-1 win over the first-place Arizona Wildcats. The former Westlake prep star needed 108 pitches to become the first U of U pitcher to throw two complete games in the same season.
Prep baseball: Riverhawks take Game 1 in Super Regional series; Mustangs fall
MILLVILLE — A momentum swing in the first inning proved to be the difference Thursday in Game 1 of a baseball Super Regional in the 4A state baseball tournament. Ridgeline turned a double play in the top of the first to get out of a jam. Then the Riverhawks proceeded to plate three runs in the home half of the opening inning, which would prove to be enough. Eighth-seeded Ridgeline beat visiting and ninth-seeded Provo, 7-2, to begin the best-of-three series on a good note.
Prep boys volleyball: Grizz advance to semis at state; Cats, Hawks still alive
Editor’s note: This story will be updated when more details are available. Some unexpected adversity was not about to derail the Grizzlies in their quest to achieve their primary objective.

Analyzing Utah State's offseason attrition: Not great, but far better than last year
LOGAN — The spring transfer portal window, to put it mildly, wasn’t the best of times for Utah State football and its head coach Blake Anderson. After weathering the winter transfer portal almost spectacularly, losing only two players from the two-deep depth chart — Devin Dye and Ralph Frias — the spring window saw around five expected rotation players or starters depart the program, most of whom were enticed away by NIL offers from other schools.
Prep boys soccer: Stangs advance on Crystal golden goal; Cats fall in shootout
The Mustangs are starting to win some close games just in the nick of time, much to the relief of head coach Justin Beus. Dalton Crystal came through with a golden goal with eight seconds remaining in double overtime to propel Mountain Crest to a 3-2 victory over Cedar in the opening round of the 4A Boys Soccer Championships early Friday evening in Hyrum. This was Mountain Crest’s second golden goal of the week as Will Burnett provided the heroics in Tuesday’s 2-1 triumph over visiting Green Canyon in OT.
