Highlights: MHSAA boys soccer state semifinals

HOWELL, Mich. (News 10) - Two Mid-Michigan boys soccer teams played in the state semifinals on Wednesday night. In Division 3 at Parker Middle School in Howell, Williamston battled Grosse Ile to a scoreless tie through regulation and extra time. The Hornets got two big saves from senior goalie Beckam Harbert in penalty kicks, and freshman Ari Najor scored the winning goal as Williamston won the shootout 4-2. Williamston will face Elk Rapids in the state championship game at Grand Ledge High School on Saturday at 12:30 p.m.

Brighton Schools celebrates successful $90.275 million bond proposal

According to unofficial election results, Brighton Area Schools successfully passed a $90.275 million bond proposal Nov. 3. The proposal, which earned 55.07% support, addresses safety, facility and learning-space needs without increasing the current tax rate. The bond will cover districtwide safety system and traffic improvements, secure school entrances, classroom renovations, updated science and music learning spaces, elementary gymnasiums, and repairs to aging roofs and cooling equipment. It also includes improvements to the Brighton Center for the Performing Arts. The debt millage will remain at 2.73 mills. According to district officials, the tax rate is the lowest in Livingston County and the lowest in Brighton since 1987. "We recognize the decision to invest in our schools is an important one, and we are grateful to everyone who took the time to learn about the proposal, ask questions, share feedback and participate in the election," Superintendent Matt Outlaw wrote in a statement to The Daily. "We also recognize that members of our community have held differing views on the proposal, and we respect the perspectives of all our residents. High school football: Breaking down the top playoff games in Round 2

Clarkston (9-1) will need a big game from quarterback Alex Waszczenko if it hopes to hand Grand Blanc (10-0) its first loss of the season in the Division 1 district final Friday, Nov. 6. The senior dual-threat QB has completed 64% of his passes for 1,116 yards, 11 TDs and two interceptions. He’s also rushed for 404 yards and 11 TDs. “Offensively, it starts with our QB Alex Waszczenko,” Clarkston coach Josh Pintar said. “He is the catalyst to everything we do on offense. Along with our offensive line giving him time and opening up holes in the run game, I expect them to be important factors in how this game goes. Alex is a tremendous athlete who has the ability to make plays both in the run or pass (games), and he is also dangerous on broken plays, making something out of nothing.” Waszczenko is already third in school history with 1,116 career passing yards, recently passing Dugan Fife. He also ranks third with 34 career TD passes, having moved past Tyler Scarlett. Only Dane Fife and DJ Zezula rank ahead of him in both categories.
