The Perry Fine Arts Series will present Carol Montag at 2 p.m. on Sunday, April 21 in the Perry High School's Performing Arts Center, 1200 18th St., Perry.

Carol Montag is returning to Perry to share her unique talent as a singer-songwriter. Montag performs original songs, traditional and contemporary folk on acoustic guitar and piano.

Montag was born in Ames. She leaned to play her sisters guitar by ear while listening to folk legends like Joni Mitchell, Judy Collins and Joan Baez. She saved her money and in her senior year she purchased her first guitar, a Yamaha 12 string.

Montag began performing at restaurants, colleges, coffeehouses, home concerts, churches, music festivals and live radio shows. Montag has recorded four solo albums.

In the early 1990s, Montag was commissioned by Ballet Iowa to depict the human tragedy of the farm crisis and she toured the Midwest with the company. While performing for a private party in Washington, D.C. she was invited to sing at the 2010 World Food Prize Laureate Award Ceremony.

She has many acclaims. The Burling Area Arts Council says “A singer of new songs written by her for her, Carol is not folk or blues or modern, she cannot be categorized, she must be heard.” Julie Gammack of The Des Moines Register says “Carol has a true gift and is a true Iowa treasure. Her music is powerful, beautiful, harmonic, soulful, and real.”

Please join us for an afternoon of wonderful music.

Perry Fine Arts concerts are free (donations are accepted) and open to all. The Performing Arts Center is handicapped accessible.
