State College, Pa. — A man shoved a woman into a wall and split her head open, according to police.

Ryan Francis Gustin 21, of Penfield, N.Y. spoke with police on April 13 after they were called to Brumbaugh Hall on the campus of Penn State University, Officer Michael Friend said. Gustin claimed he was in a “predicament” since the victim was his girlfriend and she'd allegedly been cheating on him, Friend added.

The person she allegedly cheated on Gustin with accused Gustin of pushing the woman, Friend wrote in the affidavit.

Police learned Gustin lives at an off-campus apartment called “The Maxxen” in State College, according to Friend. He allegedly got into Brumbaugh Hall with a PSU Temp ID, Friend said.

Once there, Gustin went directly to the room of the man he believed was cheating with his girlfriend and knocked on the door, according to the report. When the man answered the door, Gustin was crying and asked to speak with his girlfriend, who was also in the room, Friend said.

A witness told police he heard a loud noise outside the room as Gustin spoke with the woman, Friend said. After exiting the room, Gustin had blood on his hands and face, according to the witness. He allegedly washed it off before police arrived.

According to Friend, Gustin smelled of alcohol and had bloodshot eyes and "was asking questioned repeatedly."

The victim told investigators, “first he yelled at me and then he pushed me” during an interview, according to Friend. The victim was lying on the ground with a pillow underneath her head when police arrived, Friend added.

Gustin is being charged with first-degree felony aggravated assault, simple assault, harassment, defiant trespassing, and disorderly conduct. Gustin is free after posting 10 percent of his $35,000 monetary bail.
