Rep. Dusty Johnson’s loss is Sioux Falls Mayor Christine Erickson’s gain. On Monday, Johnson’s longtime Deputy Chief of Staff and State Director, Courtney Heitkamp, announced on LinkedIn that she will soon join Erickson’s administration as Deputy Chief of Staff. Heitkamp served in this role for eight years. “When thinking about what role I wanted next, I focused on a few things. I wanted a role that would challenge me, that would allow me to serve a community that I love, and to be surrounded by smart people who work hard and care enough about the work to give a little more,” Heitkamp said. “I'm incredibly fortunate to have found that in Mayor Erickson's team. “Thanks, everyone, for all the love and support. Life is full of changes, challenges, and opportunities, and I'm forever grateful to be surrounded by the very best friends and family.” Her official start date is Nov. 16. Until then, she will continue working for Johnson and volunteering at the Dakota Angler Institute. So far, Erickson has appointed five people to her administration, including Heitkamp. This includes: Brett Kollars, parks and recreation director; Tom Greco, planning and development services director; Kim Stulken, human resources director; and Jim
