Meet the Teacher: He aims to support Jackson students inside and outside the classroom
JACKSON, MI - Corey Slater is always willing to be a coach to those around him - something his new role as a Jackson High School impact coach allows him to do in new ways. Slater, 46, is rounding out his third year with Jackson Public Schools, having taught in Northwest Community Schools for the previous 22 years.

Service Strong: Strengthening Mental Health for Military Connected Families. 11 AM to 2 PM. College and community members are invited to join in a meaningful initiative to empower our military-connected community entitled Service Strong: Strengthening Mental Health for Military-Connected Families, in the Bert Walker Hall Community Rooms, 144-145, Tuesday, May 28. From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. a moving and informational exhibit will be set up with a mix of 22 pairs of combat boots and shoes, with statistics related to mental health among military personnel. Learn about some of the issues facing our veterans and families, as May is Military Appreciation Month and Mental Health Awareness Month. Guests will have the opportunity to lift an Alice pack representing the “weight” that veterans and their families may carry. Military-affiliated vendors will provide information in the Community Rooms. All are invited to this free event!
Elderly couple found dead in home were longtime Jackson residents, business owners
JACKSON COUNTY, MI – Virginia and Duane Zwick were longtime Jackson residents and business owners before they were found dead in their Summit Township lakeside home. Duane Zwick, 75, owned a truck and trailer equipment shop and his wife Virginia Zwick, 74, ran administrative duties using her experience working in her family’s restaurant, Jackson Coney Island, and as an accountant for The Jackson Citizen Patriot, according to Duane and Virginia Zwick’s obituaries.

As a student athlete at Napoleon High School years ago, she said she was told she’d never leave her hometown and that her skills on the volleyball court weren’t up to par. It wasn’t easy, she said, but she took several leaps of faith to prove them wrong, including playing college volleyball and moving to Hawaii.
Cooper Street at I-94 closed due to overturned semi hauling scrap metal
JACKSON, MI – A semi hauling scrap metal overturned on Cooper Street at the I-94 interchange, closing the roadway in both directions. The crash was reported at 2:31 Friday, May 24, on southbound Cooper Steet where a semi hauling a load of scrap metal overturned, spilling its contents onto the roadway, according to the Michigan Department of Transportation.

Man stabbed, then arrested on multiple outstanding warrants in Jackson
JACKSON, Mich. (WILX) - A man was stabbed and then arrested on Wednesday in Jackson. The stabbing happened at the 600 block of Third Street on May 22. The Jackson Police Department said the 34-year-old man was treated at the hospital for minor injuries but was then lodged at the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office jail on multiple outstanding warrants.
