Chequamegon High School senior Autumn Michalski won her event at the Hale Distance Night meet at West Allis Athletic Complex on April 26. Michalski was the only athlete from the four area schools to compete.

Michalski placed first in the 1,600 metter run with a time of 4:56.77. Northland Pines senior Nora Gremban was second with 4:59.42, and Rosholt senior Sophia Bablitch was third with 5:02.38.

Slinger sophomore Piper Schuster was fourth with 5:10.37. Medford Area School District senior Meredith Richter was fifth with 5:12.76.

Chequamegon Coach Mary Patterson said said the Hale Distance Night is an elite meet that attracts the top high school distance runners from around Wisconsin for competitive night.

Michalski led from the beginning in a tight pack of runners, Patterson said. With 400 meters to go she opened her lead to make her entire race look effortless to really show her talent that night.

“Autumn could not have run a better race as she was in control every step of the race,” Patterson said.
