California swimmer Amy Appelhans Gubser braves shark-infested waters to make history
PACIFICA, Calif. — A California woman over the weekend became the sixth solo swimmer to cross the Gulf of the Farallones off the coast of San Francisco. And she's the first swimmer ever to swim in the outbound direction to the Farallones Islands, which is known as a feeding ground for great white sharks.
Mary Ashley Stevenson commits to Stanford
On Tuesday, women’s basketball head coach Kate Paye announced that Mary Ashley Stevenson, the 2024 Big Ten Freshman of the Year at Purdue, has transferred to Stanford. “Mary Ashley is another fantastic addition to our program, someone who is fiercely competitive and works incredibly hard to improve each day,” Paye said in a press release. “She embraces everything that Stanford has to offer, is diligent in the classroom and a dedicated student of the game. We are thrilled that she decided Stanford is the place for her and are excited to welcome her into the fold.”

Golden State Valkyries branding unveiled for Bay Area's WNBA expansion team
The San Francisco Bay Area's new WNBA team is called the Golden State Valkyries, a brand identity the team announced on Tuesday.The Valkyries, the WNBA affiliate of the NBA's Golden State Warriors, will be the first WNBA expansion team since 2008 and will begin play in the 2025 season at Chase Center in San Francisco.
