Gas Prices Slip Lower But Remain High

(Undated) — The price at the pump continues to slip slightly lower. According to this morning’s numbers from GasBuddy.com, the national average for a gallon of regular unleaded is $4.38, five cents lower than Monday. Here in Illinois, the statewide average is down seven cents at $4.68. In Indiana, the statewide average is $3.79 a gallon, a dime lower than the beginning of the week, making Indiana the “low price leader.” California has the highest prices in the nation, with a statewide average of $6.39 a gallon, an eight-cent increase from Monday.

Changes to campus bus system leave students finding other ways around campus

Multiple Indiana University campus bus routes have changed this year, leading students to see a difference in the ways they travel into and around campus. Eagleson Avenue between Law Lane and 10th Street will be closed until July 2027, according to the Monroe County Highway Department. Due to the construction, the IU campus bus B Route has changed.

Double-digit drop in Indiana prices at the pump

Average gasoline prices in Indiana have fallen 13.7 cents per gallon in the last week, averaging $3.87/g today, according to GasBuddy’s survey of 3,271 stations in Indiana. Prices in Indiana are 46.2 cents per gallon higher than a month ago and stand 77.2 cents per gallon higher than a year ago. The national average price of diesel has decreased 4.1 cents compared to a week ago and stands at $6.449 per gallon.

School bus costs rise as Indiana districts compare solutions

School transportation officials from across Indiana used a regional networking meeting to compare recruitment strategies, discuss student behavior issues and confront the rising cost of replacing school buses. The Transportation Directors Networking Group held its first meeting on Sept. 23, bringing transportation leaders together in a Zoom session hosted by Wabash Valley Education Service Center , according to a community announcement. Among the most common concerns was the challenge of recruiting and retaining school bus drivers. Transportation directors discussed difficulties filling regular routes and maintaining substitute driver pools, particularly in smaller communities. One district shared details of a "Drive the Bus" event that allows potential applicants to try operating a school bus in a parking lot. Other recruitment efforts included highlighting pay rates on banners and reaching out to parents and school employees who may be available before or after school hours. Participants also discussed student conduct on buses and the training drivers need to support behavior management, build relationships with students and assist those with special education needs.
