PCSO recommends misdemeanor charge against dog owner after 86-year-old was attacked
HAWTHORNE, Fla. (WCJB) - The Putnam County Sheriff’s Office recommended charges against the man who owned the dogs that mauled an elderly woman sending her to the hospital. According to a public records request filed by TV20, the sheriff’s office has filed the second-degree misdemeanor charge of “dog owner reckless disregard” with the state attorney’s office against Christopher Smith. The state attorney is reviewing the case and will make the final charging decision.

Dunnellon man killed in motorcycle crash Saturday
PALATKA, Fla. — A motorcyclist died after he was ejected during a crash in Putnam County Saturday, Florida Highway Patrol said. He was a 39-year-old man from Dunnellon. The motorcyclist was driving westbound on State Road 20, just east of Wippletree Road, when his motorcycle struck the back of a car driven by an 80-year-old woman.
Neighbors reported ‘aggressive’ dogs at Hawthorne property for more than a year
Hawthorne neighbors had been complaining about the dogs who attacked an 86-year-old woman last week for more than a year, documents show. Files obtained from the Putnam County Animal Control Department show complaints about “aggressive” pit bulls on Little Orange Lake Drive from April 6, 2022. The case files from Animal Control document multiple calls and reports. The documents reference the same property where two dogs lived that attacked Army veteran and Hawthorne resident Gertrude Bishop on May 26, 2023.
