Lawrence man indicted on trafficking charges
A Lawrence County man arrested in December on drug trafficking offenses after an injury crash has been indicted by a Johnson County grand jury. Thomas Slone, 28, of Cains Creek Branch, Blaine, saw two of his trafficking charges for marijuana and psilocybin trafficking reach a class C felony level due to firearm enhancements.
Lady Golden Eagles win annual Lyndel Potter Memorial Tourney
The annual Lyndel Potter Memorial Tournament was played this weekend with eight teams participating. Johnson Central won the tournament with a perfect 5-0 record. The Lady Golden Eagles knocked off Morgan County Elizabethton 7-1 Friday night. Raelyn Adkins picked up the win on the mound. She finished the game three for three at the plate with a triple and three RBIs. Randi Delong added a double in the win.
Johnson Central sweeps Paintsville
This past Monday featured Part 2 of the Battle of Paintsville and it was an outstanding game. Fierce rivals duked it out again as the Paintsville Tigers made the short trip across town to take on the Johnson Central Golden Eagles at Johnson Central High School. A game which saw Johnson Central prevail again and take all the bragging rights for the year, but the Paintsville Tigers made them earn it; the Golden Eagles came away with a 6-4 win and swept the season series 2-0.

Harrodsburg man sentenced to more than 15 years in prison for trafficking meth in Johnson
A Harrodsburg man was sentenced to serve more than 15 years in prison recently for armed methamphetamine trafficking in Johnson County. According to a statement from the office of U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Kentucky Carlton S. Shier IV, on April 8, U.S. District Judge Robert Wier sentenced Aristotle White, 51, to serve 181 months in prison.

Brodeur strikes out five in win over TMU
University of Pikeville baseball won their final AAC home series of the season with a 5-4 victory over Truett McConnell Sunday afternoon. TMU drew first blood in game three with a two-out single to left, but their lead was short-lived. Cam Revolt got the Bears offense rolling in the bottom of the first with a one-out triple, his fifth three-bagger of the season. Noah Helton walked one batter later, then Revolt tapped the dish after a sacrifice fly by Austin Gurney. With two outs, Tyler Maynard singled to left and Helton scored all the way from first after an errant throw to the plate. After one inning, UPike led 2-1.
Kentucky Medicaid Assistance Program signed into law
Gov. Andy Beshear held a ceremonial bill signing of Senate Bill 280, legislation sponsored by Sen. Phillip Wheeler, R-Pikeville, on April 12. The Kentucky Medicaid Assistance Program, according to a statement, will be "revolutionary for Kentucky residents' access to quality care and will bolster Kentucky's rural hospitals by directing the Cabinet for Health and Family Service to develop a new Medicaid directed payment program for Kentucky that aims to improve access and quality in underserved and rural areas."

Highest bid awarded for PHS gym project
The Paintsville school board opted during a special meeting April 15 to award the highest bid for a project to replace the gym floor at Paintsville High School. The board accepted a $205,245 bid from Cincinnati Flooring to replace the PHS gym floor even though another company, BSN Sports, submitted a lower bid of $135,758.31 for the project.
