The Maui Police Department has identified the victim of a fatal car accident. The victim was 24-year-old pedestrian Mateo Stephens from Kula. The incident happened on September 21, 2023, on Hana Highway, near Hansen Road in Kahului. Stephens was struck by a southbound 1995 Chevrolet Camaro.

Kahului Resident Arrested Following Fatal Pedestrian Crash on Hana Highway
A fatal accident occurred on Hana Highway, Kahului, on September 21, 2023. The incident involved a 1995 Chevrolet Camaro and a pedestrian. The driver, Ronald Hoilien, collided with a pedestrian on the road shoulder. The 24-year-old pedestrian from Kula died at the scene; his identity has not been released yet.
