    Huskies earn 1st place finishes in Northfield Triangular

    Owatonna track and field took home first place finishes for both its boys and girls teams on Thursday as part of a Northfield triangular. The Huskies scored 108 points on the boys side, well ahead of Northfield with 52 and Red Wing with 18. On the girls side it was a 97 point first place finish ahead of Northfield’s 56 points and Red Wing’s 32 point effort.

    As for the individual events, on the boys side Lucas Webber took home first place in the 100 meter event as Owatonna finished in the top four spots with each runner post a sub 12 second finish. Webber continued his strong afternoon with a first place finish in the 200 meters while Keanan Larson took home second place in the 400 meter event.

    Owatonna continued a strong running afternoon with a first, second and fourth place finish in the 800 meters led by Nathan Seykora. Seykora would go on to place third in the 1600 meters not long after with a 4:46.23 time, nearly 10 seconds ahead of fifth place.

    Jack Sorenson, Mason Myrom and Ayoub Farah went on for a sweep in the top three in the long 3200 meters.

    In the hurdles Seth Johnson took home first in the 110 meter event and first place in the 300 meter hurdles as well. Pivoting to the relays, the Huskies finished first in the 4x200 relay after finishing second in the 4x100. The quartet of Jacob Ginskey, Colin Zimmerman, Michael Halverson and Jack Sorenson took home first in the 4x800 event.

    Off of the track , Zachary Dahnert won the shot put with a personal best of 49-06.00 while Torrin Smith took home first in the discus. A second place finish by Darian Stransky in the high jump and a second place finish by Spencer Copeland in the pole vault rounded out the throwing events as Nolas Ginskey’s first place victory in the long jump and triple jump finished out the afternoon for the boys squad.

    For the girls it was Jozie Johnson winning the 100 meters while Halle Theis took home the top spot on the podium to win the 200 meters with 27.08 time. Emma Hoppman led the pack with a first place finish in the 400 meters while Tegan Kruschke won a photo finish over Red Wing’s Nora Hanson in the 800 meters.

    Carsyn Brady won the 1600 meters by nearly five seconds while Clara Sennott trailed for a second place finish in the 3200 meter event not long after. Brady would once again win a close race in the 300 meter hurdles before the Huskies took home first in the 4x100 relay and second place in the 4x200 relay. The grouping of Kelii Waypa, Madelynn Meier, Amelia Baldwin and Kate Cowell took home first in the 4x400 relay while Carsyn Brady, Leah Leckner, Clara Meier and Ella Mollenhauer won the 4x800 by 36 seconds.

    In the field, Nyalual Chan won the discus, Amma Johnson placed first in the pole vault and Johanna Spielman took home first in the triple jump to give Owatonna a trio of first place finishes on the day away from the track.
