Tolhouse brings raw organic cold pressed beverages to Toledo
Things have gotten downright smurfy at Tolhouse. Greenbar, the new cold pressed juice shop in Tolhouse, has seven varieties of its freshly squeezed designer juices, but the one called Smurfette is the favorite of both Tolhouse owner Will Lucas and coffee barista and juicer extraordinaire David Kucher. “There’s no added sugar or anything but the Smurfette probably tastes the sweetest,” said Kucher from behind the counter at Greenbar, which shares the same space as Earth Coffeeshop. The bar held its grand opening earlier this month, adding a new dimension to Tolhouse, which like Earth, will be totally open to the public.
Lucas County FANS Network helps disabled residents, encourages donations
She sits at her desk daily with a sign reading, “I can help!” attached to the top of her cubicle divider for all her co-workers to see. That’s the mentality Rebecca Thieman, community connections trainer in the community inclusion department at the Lucas County Board of Developmental Disabilities, has when she receives a request from a disabled resident for any need or want they may have through the Friends Allies and Neighbors Network, or FANS Network. If someone the board serves needs food, hygiene products, a new couch, concert tickets, social opportunities, among other things, it’s the job of the FANS Network to “make it happen for little to no money,” Mrs. Thieman said. She and her co-workers work to help clients like Richard Kujawa, who needed a new mattress after using the same one for 15 years, Mr. Kujawa said.

Jury to decide fate of two charged with killing teens
The aggravated murder case against two men accused of killing two teenaged boys in late 2022 after others lured them to a South Toledo house to confront one boy about a stolen gun was handed to a trial jury Tuesday evening. Defense lawyers’ and prosecutors summations concluded a trial day during which two defense witnesses testified, two others declined on self-incrimination grounds, and a Lucas County Common Pleas judge excluded a fifth that the defense tried to add to the witness list at the last minute. The potential witnesses against Charles Walker, 34, and Brent Kohlhofer, 42, who cited their Fifth Amendment rights were Carrissa Eames and Don Eames, Jr., separately indicted codefendants against whom charges remain pending. In their closing arguments, defense lawyers for both Walker and Corbin Gingrich repeated their introductory assertions that the allegations against their clients were made up by the Eamses and codefendants Gingrich and Cruz Garcia, who accepted plea bargains and turned state’s evidence, to hide their own direct roles in the boys’ deaths.
