WBR Schools to offer free summer meals for kids, teens
WEST BATON ROUGE PARISH, La. (WAFB) - The West Baton Rouge Schools announced a free summer meal program for children and teens. According to the school system, families can come weekly to the distribution events to receive a meal box for each of their children, ages 18 and under. Each meal box includes seven breakfasts, seven lunches, and one gallon of milk.

Former Zachary, BRCC standout hired as Tara's new boys basketball coach
Morris Wright carved out a solid career as a basketball player, first at Zachary High School and then at both BRCC and Xavier of New Orleans. Now the 30-year-old said he believes that experience will pay off as he takes on his second head coaching job. Wright was hired as the boys basketball coach at Tara High.

Arts Council of Greater Baton Rouge is going solo for its PRIDE exhibition this year as it showcases works by photographer and digital artist Caleb Gridley. "Anointing the Artifice" is on exhibit in the Shell Gallery at the Cary Saurage Community Arts Center on June 1 to July 12, with an artist’s reception set for June 7 from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. The evening includes a live performance piece by the artist.

May has been declared Brain Tumor Awareness Month in Zachary. Mayor David McDavid issued a proclamation designating the awareness month. Members of the City Council marked the occasion at their May 14 meeting, where they also recognized several Zachary residents whose families have been impacted by a brain tumor diagnosis. Many had dressed in gray, the official color for brain tumor awareness.

'He was a good kid': 16-year-old relative of New Roads mayor killed in weekend shooting
A teenage family member of New Roads' mayor was shot and killed in the city over the weekend, officials confirmed. Just before 3 a.m. Sunday, a 16-year-old was found with gunshot wounds behind a house in New Roads. According to District Attorney Tony Clayton, there were signs the teenager took off running and fell.
Zachary Police searching for man who stole $300 in merchandise from Home Depot
ZACHARY — The Zachary Police Department is searching for a man who stole $300 worth of merchandise from a Home Depot. Police released a surveillance picture of the man, who was wearing basketball shorts, a hoodie and a hat. He appears to be carrying a box with a DeWalt tool in it and a Home Depot branded bucket.
