Minding Your Business - The Barley Neck
Open 7 Nights at 4:30 p.m. Cameron and Tyler Hadfield have worked together for years. The Harwich natives both worked at the Chatham Squire and then together opened the Rail, a restaurant across the street from the Barley Neck Inn, four years ago. The two naturally fell into their roles: Tyler is more comfortable in the kitchen, in the back of the house as the chef, and Cam, the more outgoing to the two, is the front man. When opportunity knocked for them about a year ago to take over and eventually own the Barley Neck Inn, they took it! Today Tyler is the inn’s executive chef and Cam is doing his part at the front of the house and more at the inn.
Bryan Rejoins Snow Library Board Of Trustees
ORLEANS – Cheryl Bryan regained a seat on the Snow Library board of trustees in Tuesday’s annual town election. Preliminary results show that Bryan earned 813 votes. Jamie Balliett and Mark Ziomek, who garnered 936 votes and 808 respectively, also won re-election to new three-year terms. A fourth candidate, Betsy Sorensen, garnered 735 votes.

On the Wednesday after Memorial Day, the town of Wellfleet’s culinary creativity shines for a whole week as Wellfleet’s Restaurant Week begins. This year, the Chamber of Commerce is celebrating its 15th year of hosting the event, which runs from May 29 to June 4. Sponsors include Sysco, North Coast, Seamen’s Bank, We Need a Vacation, Cape Cod Five Bank, Ring Bros MarketPlace and Z.R. Frazier Excavation and Construction.

The heat delivered Tuesday (for most), and it promises to really bear down Wednesday. From Beverly to Gloucester and throughout Cape Cod and the Islands we skipped out on the warmth thanks to the wind direction, but today it appears that the North Shore won’t be spared, and Cape Cod will at least warm to the 70s.

Applications Available For Opioid Abatement Funding
ORLEANS – The board of health plans to begin reviewing applications for opioid abatement funding at its next meeting in June. The board on May 16 held a public hearing inviting residents and town officials to offer their ideas for how to use the funds, which came to the town by way of a federal settlement with opioid manufacturers and distributors. The town will receive a total of $158,251.97 in settlement funding across multiple installments through 2038.

'Tough to get at.' Mosquito expert concerned about conditions in Wellfleet
Could there be a repeat of Wellfleet's 2021 mosquito plague this year? The early signs seem a bit ominous. In 2021, Wellfleet resident Jodi North Birchall told the Cape Cod Times that the mosquito conditions in her yard were like a "horror movie." She recently posted on her Facebook page that mosquito conditions are "WAY WORSE this year."
