High school football: Rose runs away from Falcons, improves to perfect 6-0
J.H. Rose’s football team turned four touchdowns in a five-minute span into its sixth win of the season to stay undefeated on Friday night. The Rampants erupted for 27 points in a span of 4:59 in the second quarter to beat the Falcons 43-0 in a Big Carolina 6A/7A Conference matchup at The Nest. “Once the coaches start clicking and the players start trusting the guys, we’ve just got to get the ball in the playmakers’ hands and things happen,” J.H. Rose coach Will Bland said. J.H. Rose (6-0, 1-0 BCC), which recorded its second shutout this season and is yielding just over 12 points per game, was ranked No. 19 in the latest HighSchoolOT.com poll, and the Falcons found out why. The Rampants’ Daran Bell caught a touchdown pass on offense, then had two interceptions on defense, the second of which he returned 50 yards for another score. During the second-quarter outburst, the Rampants took two plays on a short field to score their first touchdown, followed it with a tip-drill interception that was returned for a touchdown, then scored on consecutive possessions — on their first offensive play — during that five-minute span. The loss was particularly frustrating for a variety of reasons, the top one being how a chance for a goal turned into one for the Warriors in less than a minute. It was also that way because of the opportunities the Pam Pack had that didn’t go into the net.

At just 17 years old, Zailey Robinson is preparing to reach an exceptional academic milestone. By December, she will earn both an Associate in Arts and an Associate in General Education from James Sprunt Community College. Robinson enrolled in JSCC’s Career and College Promise (CCP) program while completing her high school education online through Penn Foster. Her initial goal was straightforward: complete as many college courses as possible before finishing high school. As she progressed quickly through her online high school coursework, she gained the flexibility to add more college courses to her schedule. During her first year in the CCP program alone, she completed an impressive 47 college credits. “Honestly, I thought it was a lot in the beginning,” Robinson said. “I had no idea how it would turn out, but I am so thankful for Ms. Morgan [Smith, JSCC director of High School Programs] and my parents for encouraging me throughout the process.” Although Robinson initially focused on earning general education credits that could transfer to a four-year institution, she soon realized that the CCP program could help her accomplish far more than she had imagined. She now plans to continue her education by pursuing a business-related associate
