We Ranked 10 Utah Apple Cider Donut Spots From Good To Absolutely Worth The Drive

One of my favorite apple cider donuts on this list shows up as a basket of donut holes inside a downtown hotel. Another one gets fried at a biodynamic farm for just three hours on a single fall morning. Neither sounds like the usual orchard stop, and I love that.

Backburner: Big South opens in Sugar House; Maven Potluck + Recipe Exchange; Spirits Around Town

For the past two years, Damio Huddleston of Big South has served up Southern and soul food from his truck, usually from a parking spot in South Salt Lake, though the truck has traveled as far as Ogden. Two weeks ago, he announced via Instagram that “Big South will be open for take-out in Sugarhouse VERY SOON!” but didn’t include an address. He did post a photo, though, and speculation about the new location ran rampant. On Sunday, Oct. 11, Big South finally unveiled a brick-and-mortar location: 2030 S. 900 East in Sugar House, in the shopping center next to Just Organic Juice and Hoshi Hoshi Ramen. “I didn’t even know it would get this big,” said Huddleston in an Instagram reel posted on Oct. 13, looking elated as he stood out in front of the new location, despite the gray, drizzly weather, and announced a grand opening for Friday, Oct. 16. Based on the banner hung on the facade, Big South will be adding barbecue to the menu along with its classics: smoked ox tail, mac ’n’ cheese, collards, cornbread, smoked meatloaf, fried catfish, wings, smothered pork chops, fried shrimp, candied yams, dirty rice and Cajun corn. Latest updates can be found on its Instagram @bigsouthslc.
