Orchard Park, NY (WBEN) Orchard Park Police have arrested a 31 year old man in connection with the stabbing of his boyfriend. Police an argument early Sunday morning led to the incident.

Orchard Park Police Chief Patrick Fitzgerald says officers received a 911 call around 2:30 Sunday morning from an 18 year old male stating that he had been stabbed. "He said he had gotten into an argument with his boyfriend, that he was bleeding. So officers did respond that to the apartment complex on South Buffalo Street, where he resided where he said he was," says Fitzgerald. He adds the victim showed the head wound to officers, noting his boyfriend had stabbed him with a kitchen knife.

It didn't take long for police to find the suspect. "Some of the officers that were there did observe a male walking out from around behind the apartment complex coming towards them. They were able to give him clear directions, and he was taken into custody without any sort of further incident," says Fitzgerald. The victim has been identified as 31 year old Jake Diaz. He is charged with assault, menacing and weapons possession. Diaz also has been ordered to stay away from the victim.

Fitzpatrick says cases like this are rare in Orchard Park. "We do oftentimes see an uptick in domestic violence, especially around holidays. We certainly saw it during COVID, while people were home, but it is rare," says Fitzgerald.

The suspect was treated for injuries and released from a hospital.
