ORANGEVILLE, Ill. (WTVO) — The Orangeville School District held a mock crash demonstration for students ahead of prom season.

The presentation involved Leamons ambulance, Orangeville and Cedarville Fire Departments along with the Stephenson County Sheriff’s Office.

The crash is meant to bring awareness to the dangers of driving distracted or under the influence.

“The big lesson here is don’t drink and drive. If you consume alcohol. If you have any impairing substance that’s alcohol, that’s cannabis, that’s anything that alters your mental status you should not be operating a motor vehicle,” said Stephenson County Sheriff’s Office Lieutenant Mike Backus. “So do not drive intoxicated, don’t drive high, don’t get buzzed. The demonstration that you saw, the drill that these fire departments just did, is what happens when you do that.”

After the crash demonstration, students were taken to the school’s gymnasium for presentation by Orangeville Fire and the Stephenson County Coroner’s Office.
