Scattered Rain/Storms this Evening, Drier Conditions Return Sunday
COLUMBUS, Ga. (WTVM) - For portions of the Valley, it has been a rainy and stormy Friday and Saturday with some areas south of Columbus receiving between 2 to 3 inches of rain. This evening and tonight in the Valley expect mostly cloudy skies with scattered showers and storms. Some storms this evening and tonight have the potential to be on the stronger side, producing lightning and gusty winds. Drier conditions return during the second half of the overnight hours, along with some areas of patchy fog. Waking up Sunday morning expect temperatures in the mid-60s, before warming into the low- to mid-80s in the afternoon. Sunday sees some drier conditions in comparison to the past few days. Sunday expect partly cloudy skies with a few lingering isolated showers and storms in the afternoon. Kicking off the new work week, expect drier conditions through at least midweek with temperatures gradually warming from the mid-80s Monday to the upper-80s, near 90 degrees, closing out the work week and into the weekend. Isolated showers and storms make their way into the forecast late week and into the weekend thanks to some disturbances near the Valley, so stay tuned for rain coverage over the coming days as next weekend is Memorial Day weekend. Speaking of Memorial Day, an early glimpse sees a slight chance of rain and storms with temperatures in the upper-80s to low-90s.

One dead following shooting near Avalon Apartments in Columbus
COLUMBUS, Ga. (WTVM) - According to Muscogee County Coroner Buddy Bryan, a man is dead after a shooting near Avalon Apartments. 20-year-old Raquise Walls was transported to Piedmont Columbus Regional with multiple gunshot wounds, and was pronounced dead around 12:45 Friday afternoon. His body has been sent to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation in Decatur for an autopsy.
