Fire destroys home in Niagara County
NEWFANE, N.Y. — A Newfane home was destroyed in a fire Friday night, according to the Niagara County Sheriff's Office. Around 9:22 p.m. emergency personnel received several calls reporting a house fire. The people inside the home were safely evacuated thanks to a Niagara County HazMat Deputy Fire Coordinator, Mark Hain, who was driving past the home at the time.
Buffalo Bills-themed sand sculpture destroyed in Western NY: ‘This is a crime’
A Buffalo Bills-themed sand sculpture has been destroyed in Western New York. Lockport Mayor John Lombardi III said on Facebook that the public artwork was allegedly damaged by a family that allowed their children to play in it, damaging it less than a week after it was created by Jamestown-based sculptor Todd Pangborn. The sculpture was displayed at Rivi-Erie, on the beach at Widewaters Marina along the Erie Canal.
Some City of Lockport Council members reject Juneteenth as paid holiday
LOCKPORT, N.Y. (WKBW) — As the Juneteenth flag flies high in Lockport, there's pushback on whether this federal holiday should be a paid holiday in the Lock City. Water Administration Supervisor Sandra Elliston told 7 News' Kristen Mirand she feels dismissed after some City of Lockport Common Council members rejected a resolution to make Juneteenth a paid city holiday.
Wheatfield auditors release financial findings
The results are in for Wheatfield Twp. At the supervisors’ June 3 meeting, township auditors presented the findings from the 2023 audit, including a comprehensive review of the township financial records, subsidiary ledgers, cash receipts and disbursements, bank statements, investments, vouchers, budgets and other relevant documents. Also audited was the recreation board records. Several irregularities were identified, such as missing signatures on checks and unauthorized payments. Auditors provided recommendations for improvements, including investigating the valuation of fixed assets, implementing bidding procedures, and documenting processes for various township operations.
'Very upset': Lockport Mayor voices frustration over destruction of marina sand sculpture
