OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) — Changes are coming to the Dallas Junction on Monday night through July, while the Oklahoma Department of Transportation starts a major bridge rehabilitation project.
“We see over 100,000 vehicles a day through that interchange,” said Bryce Boyer, the public information officer for ODOT.
It’s one of the most heavily traveled junctions in OKC, where I-235, I-35, and I-40 meet.
Starting Monday at 8:00 p.m. through July, ODOT will start working on bridge joint rehabilitations over Reno, the Union Pacific Railroad, and Sheridan, to keep them safer for longer.
“It saves us from having to go in and do full bridge replacements because we can just rehab the bridges to keep them going,” said Boyer.
Starting April 29, Southbound I-235 between Northeast 5th and I-40 will be shifted and narrowed. After working southbound, crews will shift to the northbound lanes.
It may seem like just a small stretch of road.
“We see a lot of cars. It’s going to be a lot of impact,” said Boyer.
With that, there will be a series of intermittent ramp closures.
The southbound I-235 on-ramp from N.E. 5th will be intermittently closed
The southbound I-235 on-ramp from Lincoln Blvd. will be intermittently closed
The southbound I-235 off-ramp to Oklahoma City Blvd. will be intermittently closed
The southbound I-235 off-ramps to east and westbound I-40 will be intermittently closed
Southbound I-235 will be narrowed to one lane at between N.E. 5th and I-40
“Not all the ramps will be closed all night. We will do intermittently throughout the night,” said Boyer.
If you can, avoid the area.
Take I-44 if you’re going west and take I-35 if you’re going east.
If you can’t avoid the Dallas Junction, pack some patience and pay attention for work crews and trucks.
