Did you feel it? Earthquake rattles the Basin

Update: The USGS reported another earthquake, with a 3.8 magnitude, which occurred at 2:32 p.m. in Jal New Mexico on Thursday, and spread through the West Texas area.

This is the third reported earthquake of the day that spread to the Permian Basin.


ODESSA, Texas (KMID/KPEJ)- A 3.9 magnitude earthquake struck the city of Jal New Mexico, and stretched across the Western Texas area, including Odessa.

According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS) report, the earthquake scaled at a 3.9 magnitude with a depth of 7 kilometers on Thursday, April 25 at around 1:36 p.m.

A previous earthquake was also reported by USGS earlier in the day around 8:49 a.m. with a magnitude of 2.5.

The USGS Earthquake Hazards Program reported that a 3.9 magnitude earthquake, although felt by people in the surrounding areas, is considered a minor earthquake and causes minimal damage.
