Organized by church members of Legacy View Church, the event, held 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., was free and open to the homeless. The goal was to give back to the community.

The refreshments were provided by church members, and the haircuts and facials were from licensed professionals.

"It's a blessing," Danny Nunn, pastor at the church, said.

Maribel Tavera, who received a haircut from Janiece Johnson, told a Star Banner reporter she's been living at the Salvation Army for the past two weeks. Tavera said she heard about the giveaway and wanted to come by to get a get a haircut.

Tavera hopes she can get a job and find somewhere to live soon.

A man who identified himself only as William, told church members he needed prayer. Holding hands and forming a small circle, Deacon Gary Thornton prayed for William.

At the conclusion, William thanked church members. He took a goody bag, and was encouraged to continue praying.
