Community continues to push back against proposed solar project
The Protect Wright’s Mesa Community Coalition formed last year in response to the proposed industrial-scale solar project on Lone Cone Road outside of Norwood. The project, which is being spearheaded by OneEnergy Renewables, spans over 1,000 acres (the actual built area of the project is 640 acres) and includes more than 200,000 solar panels.
Seeing is believing at the Lone Cone Library
When Carrie Andrew came into the then-named Norwood Public Library in 2010, the nearly 2,000 square-foot building perched on the corner of Summit and Lucerne Streets was bursting at the seams. Now, as she’s wrapping up her directorship, the last phase of the master plan is being settled for the...
Area reservoir’s dam is degrading, but not expected to fail
Norwood Town Manager Deana Sheriff says there’s no threat of the Gurley Reservoir dam failing, but an area of degrading slope needs a significant repair this year. The 300-acre lake is over 100 years old and has a water storage of 10,000 acre-feet to supply water to hundreds of people in the Town of Norwood and irrigate thousands of crop acres.

My view at the draft solar regulations meeting
I attended the Draft Solar Regulations meeting in Norwood/Telluride on March 27 and I came away with the idea that our planning director is not really on the side of the county she represents. I saw an overwhelming consensus by the BOCC, P&Z, and those in attendance that Wright’s Mesa Rural/Agriculture be removed from the permitted zones for Large-Scale Solar in the Solar Draft Regulations, as was directed in the January meeting, yet it was still on the revised regulations presented at this meeting. The BOCC continued, at this meeting, to implore that WMRA be taken off the permitted zones for Large-Scale Solar, as WMRA is not an appropriate place for industrial scale solar, and time after time they were met with a quick answer as to why it couldn’t/shouldn’t happen.
