Beacon Journal spelling bee winner moves to Round 3 in national competition
Zachary Yeager, a seventh-grader at Chippewa Jr./Sr. High School, has moved on to the third round of the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Maryland. Yeager correctly spelled his Round 1 word, “leberwurst,” on Tuesday and immediately moved to Round 2, which is a vocabulary word. Yeager correctly defined “mollify” to move on to Tuesday’s Round 3, which will begin about 4:30 p.m.

Yeshiva High School of Cleveland celebrates Lag b’Omer
The rain held off long enough for the Yeshiva High School of Cleveland’s Lag B’Omer celebration to conclude with the lighting of a bonfire, dancing and singing on May 26. Held in the parking lot of the school on Fairmount Boulevard in Beachwood, attendees enjoyed face painting, inflatables, crafts, pony rides, food and a magic show by Jeff Reid of Painesville who works for Flower Clown Entertainment in Willoughby.
