Girls lacrosse: Who will you choose for Player of the Week?

Journal News/lohud readers cast a season-record 64,323 online votes last week in choosing the Girls Lacrosse Player of the Week.

With eight players nominated by their coaches, the honor went to North Salem's Ashley Cindrich.

The sophomore attacker, who, over three games, amassed 10 goals and two assists and caused opponents to turn the fall over five times, received 23,355 votes.

The runner-up, Dobbs Ferry goalie Eleni Georgioudakis, who had 31 saves over three games, received 20,980 votes.

This week, coaches have nominated seven athletes for their April 15-21 play.

Amanda Cary, Mahopac

The sophomore goalie was all over the place, playing defense, as well as goal, cutting down angles with her team down three players, then four players in the second half of a 12-11 loss to Lakeland/Panas. Cary was officially credited with 11 saves but had multiple stops in other ways, as well.

Michaela Kaltsas, Fox Lane

The sophomore attacker scored 12 goals and had five assists over three games. She scored five times in a win over Harrison, had a six-point (three goals and three assists) game in a win over Brewster and put in four goals and had two assists in a loss to Horace Greeley.

Harper Lapin, Harrison

The junior midfielder and attacker poured in seven goals and had an assist and won the race to four balls off the draw ih a 15-14 loss to Fox Lane. She also had three goals, three assists and got two balls off the draw in a 13-11 win over Putnam Valley.

Shaina Picucci, Westlake

The junior attacker/midfielder helped her team go 3-0 last week by scoring 11 goals over the span. She had four goals, one assist and won the race to three draws against Croton. Against Putnam Valley, Picucci also nettted four goals and had an assist and against Sleepy Hollow, she put in three goals and had an assist.

Kleoniki Snyder, White Plains

The senior attacker scored seven goals over four games. Included were two goals against Byram Hills, one being the game-winner with eight seconds left in regulation in a 10-9 win. She also had two goals iand an assist in a win over Nanuet, two goals and an assist in a win over Ossining and a goal and an assist in a loss to Horace Greeley.

Maya Torgalkar, Rye Country DAy

The freshman midfielder dominated on the draw and was otherwise a big offensive force during three wins last week. She netted three goals and won the race to six balls off the draw against Portledge, had four goals and two assists and won 13 balls off the draw vs. St. Luke's and had two goals and three assits and secured 10 galls off the draw vs. Greenwich Academy. She also forced opponents into 12 turnovers overall and secured five ground balls.

Lilly Whaling, Rye

The senior attacker, who'll play next year for Cornell, surpassed 250 career varsity draw control wins and is closing in on 200 goals after big performances during three games last week. In a 15-14 win over Wilton, Connecticut, she netted five goals and won the race to grab four balls off the draw. She had three goals and got eight balls off the draw in a 15-4 win over Scarsdale and Whaling had six goals and beat oppoinents to six balls off the draw in a 12-11 loss to Ridgefield, CT.
