Local organist will perform public recital at Salt Lake City Tabernacle

IDAHO FALLS – Cory Whittier of Idaho Falls will perform his 25th recital at the historic tabernacle in Salt Lake City next week. Southeast Idaho's growing Jewish community is inviting residents of all backgrounds to once again "light up the night" for the Fourth Annual Community Chanukah Celebration in Idaho Falls. “This year, more than ever, we need to add light to illuminate the darkness,” said Rabbi Mendel Lifshitz, director of the statewide organization. “Chanukah celebrates the triumph of good over evil, of light over darkness. Bringing the community together in joy and unity is the most meaningful way to honor that message.”

Grace Lutheran's live nativity returns Friday

POCATELLO — The Grace Lutheran Church’s live nativity event will usher in the holiday season for Gate City area residents when it returns Friday for its sixth year. The popular nativity production that started during the COVID-19 pandemic features more than 75 volunteers and a variety of real barnyard animals like camels, donkeys, miniature horses and sheep. Attendees can drive to Grace Lutheran Church at 1350 Baldy Ave. for performances at 5:30 p.m., 6:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Friday to experience the wonder of the nativity story in the church parking lot from the comfort of their vehicles. The church will broadcast the production on 94.9 FM, and the nativity will be projected on a large screen for viewers. Since its inception, approximately 1,000 people have attended the annual holiday production. In previous years, the nativity used a drive-through style production and traditionally was held on a Wednesday, but Pastor Jonathan Dinger felt that hours of cold weather exposure was a lot to bear for actors and animals and decided to limit it to three 25-minute performances. “We’ll have the animals set up in a little pen and people drive by,” Dinger said. “We have them drive by the whole
