City Clears out Downtown Utica Homeless Encampment
UTICA, N.Y. -- City crews, on Thursday, cleaned out a homeless encampment from a historic Utica building. "Over the past couple of weeks, things have been piling up and essentially what we found a couple days ago was an encampment. Some of the vestibules are being used as a bathroom, some of them for sleeping, but it's an enormous public health nuisance," says Mayor Mike Galime, who joined crews on clean-up duty.

UTICA, N.Y.-- A Utica veteran is celebrating a century of life!. John Frazier celebrated his 100th birthday at Roscoe Conkling Park in Utica on Saturday. Utica officials provide update on stray dog efforts

Oneida County Board of Legislators remembers the late Russell Brooks
UTICA — The Oneida County Board of Legislators paid tribute to the late Utica Fire Chief Russell Brooks at its Wednesday, June 12 meeting. Brooks joined the Utica Fire Department in 1975 and worked his way up the ladder throughout his 43-year career, becoming fire chief in 2004. He left the department in 2018. Brooks died on June 2, 2024, at age 75. At the end of the board meeting, 23rd District Legislator Mike Gentile mentioned Brooks’ passing, saying that he was a “staple to the community.”

UTICA — The Munson Museum of Art, 310 Genesee St., celebrates some of New York State’s most famous landscapes with two new exhibits. “Views of New York: Wilderness and Waters” is a collection of works depicting the areas around the Hudson and Mohawk River valleys. “Trenton Falls: Stilled Waters | Still Here” brings focus to Native relationships with the local landscape through a focus on the art of Trenton Falls. The exhibitions are free and open to the public through the fall. Featuring works produced over two centuries in diverse mediums and styles, both exhibitions offer the chance to explore the rich beauty of landscape art.

Utica's Murnane Field in line for change to turf surface
UTICA — The most well-known baseball field in Utica is nearing a substantial change. At his State of the County address in May, Oneida County Executive Anthony J. Picente Jr. stated that “at his request the Board of Legislators approved a capital project for Donovan Stadium at Murnane Field. We will improve the facilities with a new turf surface. This will allow us to increase capacity, have more tournaments and more fans enjoying this venue.”
