Former 4-star recruit recalls what it was like to be recruited by Josh Heupel to Oklahoma

Earlier this week, former Oklahoma Sooners wide receiver Durron Neal joined Dial It Up with Trevor Knight to discuss his time in Norman.

Neal, a former four-star recruit from Saint Louis, played at Oklahoma from 2012 to 2015.

Knight, who also played for the Sooners from 2012 to 2015, asked Neal at one point during the show about his recruitment.

Neal, who was rated as the No. 80 overall player in the 2012 recruiting class, told Knight that current Tennessee Vols head coach Josh Heupel was relentless as a recruiter.

"Coach Jay Norvell and Josh Heupel, when I say Coach Heupel, man, he was a hard recruiter," said Neal. "Every other week he was coming up to my high school, like 'you doing your workouts, what you eating, what's your grades look like?' Every other week, man, he was always up there. Just making me feel like they wanted me there and they want me to be there."

Neal noted that he was a big fan of Texas quarterback Vince Young, but the Longhorns never showed any interest in him.

Heupel's efforts paid off as Neal signed with the Sooners. Neal caught 104 passes for 1,323 yards and six touchdowns during his career at Oklahoma.

One of Neal's most memorable moments came in 2014 when Heupel, who was Oklahoma's offensive coordinator at the time, called a trick play that resulted in Neal throwing the only touchdown pass of his career.
