How local church celebrated milestone

NILES, Ohio (WKBN) – An area church celebrated a special milestone Saturday.

The Grace AME Church of Warren held a celebration banquet at the Eastwood Event Centre in Niles. It celebrated the church’s 150th anniversary.

The banquet is part of a special celebration week titled “The Shoulders We Stand On”, and included several events that took place since Monday.

The church first held services in 1874 and was the first African-American congregation in the area.

“We are intentional about serving the community, and we just look forward to all the many years going forward, and hopefully we can draw some people who are just as passionate about lifting up the community as we are,” said Pastor Shane Floyd.

The week of celebration concludes Sunday morning with an anniversary worship.

It’s scheduled for 10:45 a.m. at its church on Main Street Southwest.
