Here what the discount grocery chain had to say about Summers. “Based on her extensive experience with homeless veterans and individuals, Patty recognized the need for an active support group for the homeless, especially during winter. She and her team collect and distribute warming items in the greater Youngstown/Warren and Sharon areas. Patty advocates for those needing various types of assistance and collaborates with local agencies to provide necessary resources. As a Hometown Hero, she received a $500 Save A Lot gift card for her outstanding community service.”

Youngstown’s Apocalyptic Lovers offers thanks to Austintown student choir for vocal help
Members of the rock band Apocalyptic Lovers recently made a surprise visit to the Austintown Middle School Choir to drop off thank-you packages to kick off the summer. In October 2023, Choir Director Megan Keown and her students recorded backing vocals for the Youngstown-based four-member rock band’s newest album, “And the World Tomorrow,” slated for release at the end of June.

Area teens with a passion for music are asked to take part in a summer music camp at Youngstown State University. YSU’s Dana School of Music announced the return of its Summer Music Camp and Vocal Performance Clinic, according to a press release. The camp will take place from June 9 to June 14, with week-long musical intensives that promise to provide unforgettable experiences for aspiring musicians aged 13 to 18.
Fallen veterans honored in Streetsboro ceremonies
Veterans groups honored fallen soldiers Sunday in Streetsboro as they traveled in their annual "Round Robin" visit to various sites for observances. Among the stops was a service Sunday morning at Evergreen Cemetery, where American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars posts. From there, the group traveled to Woodside Lake Park, where wreaths were laid in the water in honor of those who died at sea. Many other Portage County-area communities hosted events to honor fallen soldiers on Sunday and Monday.

Mahoning County affected by power outages
MAHONING, COUNTY, Ohio (WKBN) – Over 700 people were without power in Mahoning County Sunday night. As of Monday morning, only a few scattered outages remained. At one point, 723 people were without power in Youngstown and the surrounding areas.

The Trumbull County Prosecutor’s Office released on Thursday the results of a more than a yearlong investigation involving the office, the Ohio State Highway Patrol and the Ohio Attorney General’s Bureau of Criminal Investigations into the March 21, 2023, early morning, officer-involved fatal shooting of Fred Henry Wild III, 50, of Girard.
