Much has been discussed regarding the addition of offensive weapons to help second-year quarterback Bryce Young.

It is a fair discussion to have. Young's improvement is paramount for the Panthers to take any meaningful steps forward during the 2024 season.

However, cornerback Jaycee Horn has a simpler prediction behind why Young will be more successful in his second season with first-year head coach Dave Canales.

"It's going to help him just because he's got a year under his belt,'' Horn said about Young's ongoing development. "Your first year is kind of fast, and the second year, things slow down a lot. So weapons or not – I don't really get into all that – he's going to be a better player just because he's going into year two."

Horn's assessment is somewhat true. That is what happened with Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence, who struggled under the wrong coach his rookie season but burst onto the scene during his second year.

That can happen for Young. Though weapons, and having good ones, matter.

Experience breeds results in the NFL. During Young's rookie season, he had several voices in his ear as Frank Reich's coaching staff struggled to have a locker room buy into its process.

Canales is already changing that dynamic. Young has talked frequently about the communication between him and Canales. Additionally, the Panthers have shown belief in Young by adding players like Diontae Johnson and Xavier Legette.

But that doesn't matter – at least in Horn's experience. By Young having more time to grow into the NFL version of himself, he is bound to be more productive in year two.
