A 57-year-old man has tragically died from his injuries after a brutal goring incident during a bull-running festival in Spain .

The victim was violently gored twice by a bull in the groin and pelvis areas while participating in a fiesta in a town just 45 km from Valencia. In a desperate attempt to escape, he sought refuge in the doorway of a house but was still viciously attacked through the metal bars, sustaining injuries so severe that they led to his death in the hospital.

The tragic event occurred in La Vall d'Uixo, a town located in the eastern part of Spain within the province of Castello.

The man endured the fatal gorings on April 6 amidst the local patron saint celebrations, where he was struck by a bull during a bullfighting event.

Initially rushed to La Fe Hospital in Valencia, the man was later transferred to Castellon General Hospital. Despite medical efforts, he passed away seven weeks following the harrowing incident.

His death marks the first in 2024 related to the "bous al carrer" events in both the province and the entire Valencian community. The festivities were in honor of Saint Vincent in April, drawing thousands of participants.

Onlookers at the scene were left in shock as they witnessed the attack, with some rushing to aid the man to a nearby infirmary, while others managed to subdue and capture the rampaging bull.

The two gorings caused injuries in the groin with an upward trajectory, causing active bleeding, and another in the pubis. The 57-year-old also suffered a dorsal contusion possibly indicating a rib fracture.

Despite remaining conscious throughout his care and transfer, he experienced difficulty breathing. Facial and cranial bruises were also identified. Upon arrival at the hospital, he was admitted to vitals, underwent a CT scan to rule out non-visible internal injuries, and was taken into surgery.

Despite having an ambulance on standby at the event, the absence of a doctor led to the decision to halt the fight. However, the commission announced that a replacement would arrive at the venue as soon as possible to ensure all safety measures could be adhered to as the animal was roped and dragged in.

Once a doctor was present, the 'bou' commission members, with assistance from some spectators, proceeded to rope the animal.

The fiesta was immediately halted by the organizers after the man was taken to the hospital. There's been an ongoing debate about whether Valencia should put an end to bullfighting and bull runs, with officials emphasizing the need for increased safety measures during these events to prevent further fatalities.

The 57-year-old man who died was a local resident and an avid fan of the festivities.

Bulls are let loose on the streets, and participants run ahead of them in a tradition that takes place in over 1,820 Spanish towns each year, according to a recent survey by animal rights organizations AnimaNaturalis and CAS International.

Despite their popularity, many activists argue that these events are dangerous and cruel. Discussions about whether they should be banned have intensified in recent years.

The patron saints of Sant Vicent kick off with the first of two days of cows in the Placa dels Xorros, which also marks the start of a bullfighting program.

The bull chosen to be the first of the employers' associations and the bullfighting campaign of 2024 in what is known as the Capital of the Bull, the popular 'Bou de Sant Vicent,' had an accident at the Zalduendo livestock farm just over two weeks before its exhibition, according to Enrique Bonifas, the spokesperson for the organizing committee and had to be replaced - with the bull that ended up goring the victim.
