Illinois lawmakers working through holiday weekend on budget as spring legislative session ends

Illinois lawmakers will be working through the holiday weekend to get a budget to Governor JB Pritzker's desk.

A budget was filed Friday evening, and they're now combing through it to get it read three times on the floor.

This comes on the final scheduled day of the spring session.

The bill is more than 3,300 pages long.

One of the main challenges for Democrats is Governor Pritzker's request for $800 million in new tax revenue.

The money would come from extra revenues on items like an increased sports wagering tax and a cap on corporate tax deductions.

Earlier this month, the governor's office warned the leaders of agencies across the state to prepare for cut-backs if lawmakers don't pass the budget.
