    Case Shirrell of Oldham County High is Courier Journal Student of the Week

    Case Shirrell, a sophomore at Oldham County High School, is the Courier Journal Student of the Week.

    Case takes all advanced and advance placement classes, and maintains a 3.86 cumulative GPA. He is a member of the BETA Club and a longtime 4-H participant, where he is past president of the Oldham County Shooting Sports Club. He has his junior coach certification, coaches younger students in archery and has applied to serve on the 4-H State Teen Council for 2024-25. Case is a member of the school's bass fishing and archery teams. He also competed this month at the NASP National Archery Tournament.

    The nomination period and poll voting for Student of the Week opens every Monday and closes at noon each Thursday. The students are featured in the Sunday Courier Journal. Schools can nominate students with this link: http://bit.ly/3SaSNOZ.

    Jerwin Palencia Galvez, Silver Creek High School: Jerwin is a phenomenal student at Silver Creek High School. He is graduating at the top of his class with honors and summa cum laude this spring. He also earned his associate's degree and Indiana College Core while in high school and is graduating summa cum laude at Ivy Tech. Also, while in high school, he completed his Pharmacy Technician’s Certificate and has completed training at a pharmacy. Jerwin is globally certified as bilingual in the Spanish and English languages. He was nominated for the Indiana Academic All-Star award. He is a member of the National Honor Society, Future Medical Professionals Club, Environmental Club, National Art Honors Society and is a student athlete on the SCHS Boys Volleyball team. He has volunteered in the local community through his church and as a camp counselor at Camp Invention for elementary students.

    Anique Fayette, Valley High School: Every day, Anique has given 110% to her scholastic goals. She is inquisitive, personable and a wonderful student. As her teacher, I feel grateful for the opportunity to have worked with her this year.
