Former NBA player Stephen Jackson planned on having a normal wedding in 2005 with his fiancée Melissa Imani Showalter. Instead, he called it off at the last minute for a very specific reason.

"My wedding was getting ready to start, and I had been telling her two months before we was going to Texas. Look, I'm telling you now, you need to sign this prenup," Jackson said. "Cause I'm telling you, don't try me when I get there.

"You not finna dictate how I take care of my mama, my sister, and all that. I know what you up to and by the fact that we going through this is showing me a different side of you. Cause we never had these type of conversations. It really wasn't no argument. She kept saying she was gonna sign it, I'm gonna sign it, I'm gonna sign it, but kept getting the attitude every time I brought it to her.

"I'm telling, I'm like, look, I'm going to embarrass you in front of all these people, don't do it. It's something up, you know what I'm saying? So I called it off. I wasted like close to $400,000 on the wedding, just wasted. And we end up just partying and our relationship never been the same since."

Jackson was used to challenges on the basketball court, but now he dealt with one off the court. A prenuptial agreement was at the center of the issue, which occurs a lot, especially for athletes.

Jackson stated that he and Showalter had reached an agreement on a prenup two months before the wedding. Yet, on the day of the wedding, Showalter's signature was absent from the agreement.

Jackson stood firm on his decision not to proceed without the signed agreement, leading to a standstill that ultimately resulted in the cancellation of the wedding. He eventually took to social media to share his side of the story, detailing the events that led to his decision.

Jackson also told the story of being at a party where the first song played was Kanye West's "Gold Digger". This was clearly directed toward Showalter and this distaste for her.

Showalter, on the other hand, presented a different story. She claimed Jackson only gave her the prenup two weeks before the wedding, which was much later than Jackson claimed.

Showalter also took to social media to share a photo from an attorney about Jackson's prenup. She also wrote a pretty intriguing caption to go along with the photo.

"Please look at the date sent... how can you give me a prenup 2 months before the wedding when this letter clearly states that even 2 weeks before the wedding you haven't even called your financial planner or lawyer back to EVEN DISCUSS A PRENUMP! How can you give me something that wasn't even created yet???

"This letter is dated 2 weeks before the wedding (not the 3-4 months you lied about on live this morning) and also take note of who it was sent to, NOT ME."

This is pretty damning evidence, in favor of Showalter. The fact she has a document from a capital management firm, only 15 days before their wedding, shows Jackson's story is false. Right?

We discover more about what allegedly occurred when diving deeper into the story. X user A.I.M. revealed more details about the situation, showing that Showalter's words may not be as accurate as they seem.

"He told her 6 months prior. They had a very good understanding about the prenuptial agreement. He sent it over to her and kept saying she will sign it. 6,5,4,3,2 months, she was just dodging signing it. 2 weeks to the wedding. She said she was busy organizing the wedding and her wedding gown. On the day of the wedding, he went to ask her to confirm she's signed it but then she started crying saying she will sign it there and the because he said he won't proceed with the wedding anymore. She even choose the particular church (her church and her pastor), the pastor was now preaching a very dúmb teaching to Stephen Jackson to forget about prenup and all that nonsense. Lol, Stephen stood his ground and went on to cancel the wedding. He stated he didn't want her to sign it while crying because it can be thrown outside the court under the grounds of “she signed it under duress”.

"Stephen Jackson cancelled the wedding, walked out with his best man and his groomsmen to a party that day. Shockingly, some of her friends joined them to party and they had ‘relations’ with them that day."

So, who is telling the truth here? Jackson or Showalter? Jackson has a $20 million net worth today and it's clear he wasn't willing to give any of it up.

We may truly never know the full truth behind the prenup controversy. Still, it is a reminder that professional athletes often go to great lengths to protect their wealth.
