Times Radio host Matt Chorley will join BBC Radio 5 Live to present a new daytime politics show starting in September that aims at election year political commentary.

The new show hosted by the award-winning presenter and former Press Association journalist will air Monday to Friday in the afternoons.

Chorley expressed his excitement at joining the broadcaster: “I can’t quite believe it. It’s exactly 20 years since this Somerset boy arrived in London with his three A Levels, 100 words per minute shorthand, a vast collection of Elton John records, and a dream. But I could never have dreamt that one day I’d make it to the actual BBC, and in a huge general election year too.”

The show promises in-depth interviews, lively debate, and expert analysis, aiming to clarify the tectonic world of politics as it covers a wide range of topics, from housing and healthcare to education and the environment.

BBC Radio 5 Live Controller Heidi Dawson welcomed Chorley: “This is a monumental year for news and politics in the UK and across the world. Matt has a unique talent that makes politics relevant, engaging, and funny.”
