Governor Tate Reeves participated in a groundbreaking ceremony on Monday, marking the start of Amazon Web Services (AWS) $10 billion investment in Madison County—the most significant private sector investment in Mississippi’s history. This project is set to create at least 1,000 high-tech, high-paying jobs for Mississippians and establish multiple data center complexes in two Madison County industrial parks.
“It’s hard to say just how important today is to the future of Mississippi,” said Governor Reeves. “It’s a significant moment in Mississippi’s economic development history, and I’m proud of the impact this project will have on our state. In recent years, we’ve seen multiple record-breaking private sector investments, reached new heights in education, and worked hard to train our workforce for future jobs. This investment from Amazon Web Services will continue to promote economic growth and drive our state forward. The future of Mississippi is bright, and the only day better than today is tomorrow.”
The new data centers will bolster the local economy and enhance technological infrastructure. AWS’s commitment is expected to have a ripple effect, stimulating further regional investments and advancements.
Entergy Mississippi President & CEO Haley Fisackerly also highlighted the project’s significance. “We’re proud to begin our next century of service in Mississippi alongside AWS,” Fisackerly said. “This moment allows us to continue investing in our infrastructure while keeping energy rates affordable for all 459,000 Mississippi customers. From the beginning, AWS was precise that this project needed an electric utility partner that could scale quickly to meet their needs and a state that could match their desire for speed-to-market.
