Terra State Community College students begin new chapter with graduation

Terra State Community College held its 55th commencement Friday.

The commencement address was delivered by LTC Timothy M. Adair, commander, US Army Recruiting Battalion-Cleveland, and the student address was made by Brittany Goeller.

Someone to know: Cody Bischoff, recreation superintendent for the City of Fremont

Cody Bischoff, recreation superintendent for the City of Fremont, gave me a tour of the Recreation Center after he found out about the $265,000 Department of Agriculture grant the city is receiving.

Q: The recreation department runs a number of youth sports leagues. What is happening right now?

We just wrapped up our youth volleyball league and we're wrapping up our youth soccer leagues. We run two spring sports, with volleyball and soccer, and we're going to be transitioning to our baseball and our softball programs. Registration is going on currently.

When is the outdoor pool opening this year? Every pool seems to be looking for lifeguards. How are you doing?

Unofficially, we are anticipating the pool opening in the first weekend of June. That will depend on getting our lifeguards certified. We are always looking for more lifeguards. You can never have enough. We actually offer a free certification class. If the candidate takes the certification class and then works with us through the summer, we will pay for that certification.

What do you have going on year-round?

We offer a variety of memberships. For us, programming is just one small part of what we do. We've also got the building, which is open pretty much year-round, except for a few holidays, but we also have that 24-hour access, which gives our members 365 days of access to the building.
