Weaver, AL – Commissioner Terry Howell of the Calhoun County Commission presided over a poignant ceremony at Weaver Baseball Softball for Youth, where two proclamations were read, dedicating a softball field and a baseball field in honor of two beloved residents who left this Earth early, but left an indelible mark on their community. Family members of both individuals were invited to the heartfelt event, which aimed to commemorate the lasting legacies of these cherished individuals.

The first proclamation honored the memory of Cassie Wine, a vibrant young girl whose joyful spirit touched the hearts of all who knew her. Despite her brief eight years on Earth, Cassie’s love for cheerleading and her infectious enthusiasm for life left an enduring impact on those around her. Her fondness for the color green, her collection of frogs, and her unwavering faith, symbolized by the acronym F.R.O.G. (Fully Rely on God), were emblematic of her remarkable character. In recognition of her vibrant personality and unwavering faith, the Calhoun County Commission resolved to dedicate the softball field as “Cassie Wine Field,” a place where joy and laughter will forever echo in her memory.

The second proclamation paid tribute to Cody Watson, a beloved young man known for his outgoing personality and infectious laughter. With a passion for sports cars, fishing, dirt bikes, and baseball, Cody’s zest for life left a lasting impression on all who crossed his path. Despite his seventeen short years, Cody’s remarkable character and indomitable spirit continue to inspire those who knew him. In honor of his enduring legacy, the baseball field was dedicated as “Cody Watson Field,” where players and spectators alike are encouraged to embody his fervor and joy for the game.

In reading these proclamations, Commissioner Terry Howell and the Calhoun County Commission acknowledged and supported Weaver Baseball Softball for Youth in their dedication to preserving the memories of Cassie Wine and Cody Watson. As players take to the fields named in their honor, they carry with them the spirit and legacy of two remarkable individuals whose lives continue to inspire and uplift their community.  Commissioner Howell also thanked Mr. McDonald, Weaver Elementary principal, who was instrumental in coordinating the event.
