Berkeley County roadway filled with potholes to be resurfaced

BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) – A troubled roadway in Berkeley County will soon be repaved after years of complaints from neighbors.

News 2 viewer Al Hallman previously shared a video of dangerous road conditions on Calamus Pond Road off Highway 176 in Lebanon and asked for help to find out when the roadway would be resurfaced.

The potholes have caused many crashes and even a recent vehicle fire.

Berkeley County officials said Calamus Pond Road is a state road that will be resurfaced in two sections – one funded through the county’s transportation committee fund and the other by the 2022 one-cent sales tax.

“Section one is from US 176 to Whitehouse Road and will be funded by the CTC and section two is from Whitehouse Road to End State Maintenance and will be funded by the OCST,” said Berkeley County Public Information Officer Jenna-Ley Harrison.

The county is in the process of putting packages together to go out to bid in the next few weeks. Those will have a 30-to-45-day turnaround.

The project is expected to be completed in 12 to 15 months.
