    Weekend festivals happening in north central West Virginia in May

    CLARKSBURG, W.Va. (WBOY) — Looking for weekend plans in West Virginia? Here are some of the biggest weekend festivals happening in the north central area during the month of May.

    Cheat River Festival – Albright, May 2-4

    The Friends of Cheat holds the Cheat River Festival in Preston County every year as a fundraiser to help it continue to preserve the river. The event will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Friday, May 3 and from 11:30 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 4 in Albright. Attendees can expect live music from all over Appalachia, an art market, food and merchandise vendors and informational booths about preservation. There will also be a Kid’s Tent with hands-on activities for children under 12, who get into the festival for free.

    Pre-sale tickets are $40 for both days (if purchased by May 1), but gate tickets will also be available for $50 for both days, $20 for Friday and $30 for Saturday. More information is available on the festival website here .

    Bluegrass Festival at North Bend State Park – Cairo, May 10-11

    This Ritchie County festival is for the bluegrass lover and will feature bands like Staats and Vaugn and The Hillbilly Biscuits as well as food trucks and area vendors. Performances will be from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Friday, May 10 and from 1 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturday, May 11 at the North Bend State Park amphitheater. Weekend tickets are $40 and can be purchased in advance by calling 304-643-2931. Overnight accommodation deals are also available.

    Strawberry Festival – Buckhannon, May 11-19

    The opening ceremony for the Buckhannon Strawberry Festival is on Friday, May 11, but the festival kicks into full swing with live music and entertainment starting on Tuesday, May 15. During the 77th year of the Strawberry Festival, guests can expect a carnival, live music, parades, contests and, of course, strawberries served in every way imaginable.     Three Rivers Festival – Fairmont, May 23-25

    The Three Rivers Festival is a celebration of Fairmont held at Palatine Park. The three days will include live entertainment, a carnival, food vendors and other family activities. On Saturday, there is a highly anticipated pepperoni roll bake-off, a car show and a big fireworks display to end the festival. More information is available online here .

    Woodchopping Festival – Webster Springs, May 24-26

    What better way to spend Memorial Day Weekend than at a festival highlighting lumberjacks? Throughout the day on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, different types of woodchopping, sawing and axe-throwing competitions will be held.     ArtSpring Festival – Tucker County, May 24-26

    A celebration of arts in Tucker County will be held across the county on Memorial Day Weekend, with events in Thomas, Davis, Canaan Valley and Parsons. Some highlights include the Davis Art Market on Saturday and the Thomas Gallery Walk as well as pop-up galleries that are expected throughout the area.
