Students from Mohawk Regional, Montague-Gill, and Turners Falls schools gathered at Franklin County’s beautiful justice facility on Wednesday for education on the system and issues standing in the way of free and fair elections in the United States. Following remarks from District Attorney David Sullivan, the event’s keynote speaker took the podium to talk about elections.

John Bonifaz is a constitutional law scholar and voting rights advocate and took the time to explain to the students the importance of their participation in upcoming elections.

“I think it is inspiring young people are our future. They are the ones who are going to stand up and defend our democracy decades from now. That’s really why I was here to give the message that they have a voice and can speak up and defend our democracy,” said Bonifaz.

Hampshire County will get its turn at Law Day on Friday at the Hampshire County Courthouse with another address from Bonifaz.
