    Area football teams on the move after numbers released

    COLUMBUS — All three Perry County schools moved up divisions to highlight the area changes, as the Ohio High School Athletic Association released the new numbers last week.

    Sheridan returns to Division III, Region 11, which includes John Glenn, Tri-Valley and Zanesville. Steubenville, which topped the Generals in the Division VI, Region 15 final last season, also moved up to Region 11.

    New Lexington is back in Division IV, Region 15 after spending last season in Division V, Region 19, as Cambridge, Maysville and Philo will remain in that region.

    Coshocton returns to Division V, Region 17, while River View dropped to that region after being in Division IV for several seasons.

    Crooksville joins Meadowbrook, Morgan and West Muskingum in Division V, Region 19, which includes state powers Harvest Prep, Ironton and Wheelersburg. The Raiders dropped from Division IV.

    Ridgewood dropped into Division VI, Region 23, while Buckeye Trail remains in that region, and Rosecrans moved up from Division VII, Region 23 last season.

    Competitive balance numbers played a role in the moves. Rosecrans had a competitive balance number of 34 and totaled 118, making it five over the minimum for Division VI, while Crooksville had a competitive balance number of 32 and is the smallest school in Division V at 158, joining Canfield South Range, East Knox and Barnesville.

    Ridgewood becomes one of the larger schools in Division VI after spending years in Division V, while Meadowbrook is among the largest in Division V.

    OHSAA also announced other fall sports division lineups on Tuesday. The East District will have teams in Division III, IV and V for boys and girls soccer with III and V getting one team to the regional tournament and IV will send two teams to the regional.

    For volleyball, there will be seven divisions. The East District is not guaranteed a spot in the Division III regional, while the district will get two representatives in Division IV and VII and one in Division V and VI.
