BUCHANAN COUNTY, Va. (WJHL) — Video visitation access will be expanding at Keen Mountain Correctional Center in Buchanan County on Tuesday.

Every living area at each facility will have visitation equipment, the Virginia Department of Corrections (VADOC) said in a news release. This will allow inmates to conduct visits from living areas.

New operating hours for video visits will be implemented. For the general population, video visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. on weekdays and from 7 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. on weekends.

If two inmates in the same living area are scheduled for a visit at the same time, one visit will remain and the other will be canceled, the release stated. The canceled visit can be rescheduled.

Video visitation will not be available when facilities are on lockdown.

“Ensuring inmates have as many visitation opportunities as possible is an integral part of the re-entry process,” VADOC Director Chad Dotson said in the release. “I’m hopeful Keen Mountain Correctional Center inmates will be able to use this expansion to create further connections with their loved ones.”
